Final Art Project

This is the final art project for the semester! I'm so thrilled. For my Video Art project, I decided to film myself drawing because I am an animation major, so drawing is very important in the animation field. I decided to draw two characters  named Derek and Odette from the movie The Swan Princess . If you haven't seen or heard of the movie before, I recommend watching it. It's a really good movie. I did the drawing using my own style of drawing. Before I started filming, I did some research online to see how I should do the drawing. After picking a style that was easier for me, I used my moleskine book to start drawing the characters. Towards the end I darkened them. The final part was to add some clips from the movie to go with the theme. I also added music from the soundtrack to go with it as well. Let me tell you, it turned out perfect! From January to May, I have learned a lot from this class. It has given me some ideas for the next two years of college. On...

Music Blog: ABBA Teens (A*Teens)

I chose the Swedish pop group A*Teens in the Girl Power category even though they are combined with two girls and two boys. I choose this band because they make good covers of their songs originally performed by ABBA, and they turn them into more of a Europop sound. It still sounds good as it did back then. Their music fits more with technology because it has more of an edgy type upbeat feel than the songs ABBA originally performed. I highly recommend listening these guys even if you haven't heard of them or never listened to any of their songs. A*Teens are a really a great band and most of their songs are very catchy. I'd rather listen to them than most of the music I hear on the radio now. Songs from A*Teens Mamma Mia! (1999) Super Trouper (1999) Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) (1999) Dancing Queen (2000) Upside Down (2000) Halfway Around The World (2001) Can't Help Falling in Love (2002) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKUX5qDiUgk http...

Performance Art

For my performance art, I decided to make water xylophones. I took some small water bottles to create my xylophone. Before testing out the pitch sounds, I poured a little bit of water out arranging them from the smallest amount of water, to biggest amount of water. After that, I used an artificial flavor color to make sure they had a tuning sound. I filmed this outside on the patio. I tested out the water bottles to see if they sounded okay. The pitches increased by a low pitch to a higher pitch for these water bottles. The song I played was, "Since U Been Gone," Kelly Clarkson. I enjoyed playing along to it by using my Bose speaker. It is really cool to make homemade xylophones by using water bottles or glasses with water. I feel like this is a useful tune. I hope to do something like this sometime soon.

Xerox Machine

I made a spinning wheel for my collage. I used one of my hands on the scanner of my printer to design the wheel. Next, I printed it and started to cut them out. Then I pasted it on a small poster board.

Grid Art

I created some sort of flag type pixel art for my grid art. I used different types of colors for each row to create some sort of pattern. In the middle I created a square full of frames to make it look like a carpet. It looks like a type of mandala.

Flipbook

What I did for my flipbook is I used one of my books I read my junior year of high school and started creating doodles in it. Towards the end I wrote some Chinese calligraphy. I wrote what the letters meant in Chinese, since I don't speak the language.

Nintendo's Impact on Video Game Consoles

Nintendo: How it Has Made an Impact On the Video Game Console Industry             Throughout the years, Nintendo has made a huge impact on other video game consoles by the same Sony company, as well as other video game console manufacturers such as Microsoft. It is a more advanced video game if you compare it with the prototypes such as Atari which was made in the 1970’s.   Nintendo started making its own brand of video games also in the early 1970’s.             In 1988, rival video game company Sega launched its first video game console called “Sega Genesis.” The console was released in Japan, United States, and many European countries. While Sega was emerging onto the scene, Nintendo fought hard to make sure its video game console stay on top and compete against Sega. Nintendo came up with another console similar to the Nintendo Entertainment System; the so-call...

Camera Obscura

I really did a cool pinhole camera obscura from a shoe box I used a black shoe box. I started off by attaching a white wax paper inside one side of the shoe box. Then created a small pinhole on the opposite side. Just below that, I created a small hole that would admit the size of my cellphone camera. I then went to a very dark room and turned on a small side table lamp. I directed the light through the pinhole which created an inverted image of the lamp on the white screen that I created inside the shoe box. I took a few shots with my cellphone camera and WOW it was beautiful.

Madama Butterfly

Madama Butterfly             Madama Butterfly is an opera composed and written by Giacomo Puccini and sung by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa.   It was released in 1904 at the La Scala Opera House in Milan, Italy.   The opera tells the story of a young woman named Cio-Cio, a geisha, who has fallen in love with Lt. Pinkerton, an American soldier.   They have a child and Pinkerton soon returns to his country of origin.   Cio-Cio who is so faithful is hoping that he will return to Japan to spend some time with her again soon. Sadly, everything changes when Pinkerton returns with his girlfriend and takes the child away from Cio-Cio. Whilst the opera does have a moral lesson, there is a lot of mise en scene being represented to set the tone, mood, and theme.             Mise en scene is used a lot in not just film, but in plays and musicals as well. It fea...

Broadway

Broadway Favorite I don't seem to have a favorite Broadway musical at the moment, because I have only seen one musical, but in the future, my hope is to see Phantom of the Opera or Aida  if any of them come to town sometime soon.

Aria Blog

Aria Blog After watching the short film, ARIA  ( Madama Butterfly ) there is a lot of emotion in what was going on in the film. The captain had an affair with his beloved girlfriend. Once he left his girlfriend, she remained pregnant with her firstborn child. Once the child was born, she became attached to her with a string. As soon as the girl's lover returns, he has betrayed and takes the child away from her leaving the woman in sadness and agony.  I feel very upset because the man had fallen in love with her, but when he returns he is in love with another girlfriend and take the child away from her/

Raul Cuero Video

Raul had a very rough life from where he lived growing up. He was very poor and he had discriminated by other people because of his race. However he was able to overcome that by becoming and inventor and studying microbiology. He was able to interact with people to create cool ideas for his inventions.  Since I am studying animation, I think being sociable and interacting with other people who are in this field would be very helpful for me. It's not just going to help me practice, but it will give me some ideas and tips on what I need to do to make my projects better throughout the years.

Art Blog

My Art Blog My name is Rachel Asante-Korang. I am from Tampa, Florida and my major at UT is animation. I'm also a transfer student from Saint Leo. I am very artistic, athletic, and I'm very enthusiastic. I'm also a Disney fanatic, so I love everything Disney.  I am hoping to learn more about the culture and meaning of art and other resources throughout the semester. I also hope to learn more information about film and media as well. I also hope that there will be a topic about fashion trends and animated movies later on in the semester. I feel like this class is the perfect fit for me since I am in the arts major.
